Terra Law
Vancouver has one of the most active real estate markets in Canada and our real estate industry is world leading. As a locally based, boutique law firm that focuses on real estate, Terra Law is the perfect place for those law students who are interested in commercial real estate.
Founded in 2013 by four senior partners from a large national firm, Terra Law is now a thriving boutique firm of 17 solicitors, and is one of the leading commercial real estate boutiques in Canada. Terra Law acts for a number of the most high profile and recognizable developers across British Columbia and beyond, providing advice to our clients on all aspects of real estate law, including, among other areas, acquisitions and dispositions, development, leasing, structuring and financing.
We pride ourselves on our professionalism, client focus, innovation and ability to work as a team. Our lawyers are top-notch and well-respected in the real estate industry, and our para-professionals and non-legal staff are also the best in the city. The files we work on are similar in nature, scope and complexity to those found at leading regional and national firms; however, we work hard to maintain a collegial “small firm” feel.
At Terra Law, we are committed to fostering diversity within our firm, and we are dedicated to creating a supportive culture where all individuals feel valued, respected and empowered to succeed.
Summer Student
Our summer program is designed to provide law students with a comprehensive introduction to the practice of law and in particular, Terra Law’s practice. Our summer students will learn, develop and grow as young practitioners by developing and embracing the core skills necessary to eventually excel as real estate solicitors.
Summer students are provided with formal and informal feedback throughout the summer, from both directors and associates. In particular, during the summer term, summer students will be paired with an associate mentor who will provide guidance and support.
We offer a competitive salary in line with firms in downtown Vancouver. We hope that our summer students will thrive at Terra Law and return to the firm to complete their articles following their third year of law school. Summer students who return to article with the firm will be provided with an allowance towards their third-year law school expenses.
Articling Student
Our articling students have the opportunity to work on sophisticated legal transactions and complex development projects for some of the most established real estate players in the province, with guidance and mentorship from lawyers at all levels of call.
Our articling students are paired with an associate lawyer as well as a director of the firm, who will act as their principal to ensure they fulfill the Law Society’s requirements for completion of their articles and to provide additional informal mentoring to the student.
To ensure that our articling students receive a well-rounded experience, including training in practice areas that are not practiced at Terra Law (such as litigation), we will arrange for a secondment during articles with a litigation-oriented firm, in accordance with the Law Society’s articling guidelines.
- We offer a competitive salary in line with firms in downtown Vancouver
- All typical membership fees, including: British Columbia Law Society, Professional Legal Training Course (PLTC) enrolment, Canadian Bar Association and Vancouver Bar Association membership, and all fees associated with admission to the British Columbia bar.
- Articling students will also be enrolled in the firm’s extended health and benefit plan.
